Sibelius Users Harness Social Media & Petition to Save Sibelius

On July 2, 2012, Avid Inc. closed the Sibelius research and development offices in Finsbury Park, UK, with plans to relocate the product development of Sibelius to California.

Sibelius users responded swiftly to the news by flooding related forums and chat pages with requests to reverse this decision. Most recently, several new social media and web sites recently have appeared urging Sibelius users to take action:

  • SAVE SIBELIUS page on Facebook. Users are asked to post likes and comment.
  • SIBELIUS USERS website provides a number of links and information about how users can get involved.
  • @SAVESIBELIUS on Twitter. Campaign to save the popular music notation package Sibelius.
  • SAVE SIBELIUS! – LinkedIn Group.
  • GOOGLE+ – Save Sibelius.

In addition, the consortium of music professionals and programmers who have created the above sites have put together a petition for Avid Technologies to save Sibelius:

Petition | Avid Technology: Sell Sibelius! – Proposal : Please persuade Avid to sell Sibelius back to them by signing this petition.

The Save Sibelius website is also encouraging Sibelius users to email Avid’s Board of Directors, using either the body text they have provided in the link, or in your own words.
